About the Opportunity: The inaugural Chief Finance Officer (CFO) will join the Center during a season of expansion, growth, and opportunity, as they embark upon their new strategic plan, and endeavor to protect reproductive rights around the world. The CFO will report directly to the Chief Strategy and Operations Officer (CSOO) and be a member of the Center’s Executive Team. The CFO will be responsible for all financial activities for the Center, including: financial strategy, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, general accounting, grant compliance and reporting, facilities administration, and information technology. This individual will provide counsel and support to the CSOO and the Board of Directors, including the Finance and Audit Committee on all financial matters.
The CFO will be based in New York City with some international travel required. Covid-19 vaccination is required for all US-based employees of the Center.
Areas of Leadership:
Serve as a member of the Executive Team, providing input on long and short-range planning as well as day-to-day management of the organization.
Establish a financial vision, planning, and forecasting process, to ensure that financial resources are powering the realization of the Center’s mission.
On a monthly basis, report the Center’s financials, forecasts, and metrics to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to generate insights from financial data to support organizational decisions.
Work closely with senior leaders to prepare presentations to the Board of Directors and Board Committees.
Oversee and optimize short- and long-term budget planning and cost management in alignment with the strategic plan
Design and execute a strategy to ensure the Finance department is equipped with the right systems, structures, people, and partners to effectively deliver on team and organizational goals.
Ensure financial tools are operationalized to highlight meaningful insights and guide short- and long-term decision-making.
Ensure successful annual audits and compliance with all required tax forms and state registrations.
Oversee preparation and submission of timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Provide oversight to grants compliance including budget development, contracting, reporting/monitoring, and grants receivable management.
Develop and implement risk identification and controls, systems and procedures for effective operations, and timely monitoring and reporting.
Finance & Administration Team Management:
Supervise and mentor the Controller, Financial Analysis team, Senior Director Grants & Compliance, and Director, IT.
Provide leadership, training, and support for the department, including directly managing and developing the finance, accounting, grants compliance, facilities, and IT teams, ensuring goals are met.
Establish a strong partnership model for how other teams will work with finance to advance the organization’s goals.

Possesses a global mindset and understands the contextual differences within the countries and core constituencies with which we work. Fluency in written and verbal Spanish is a strong plus.
Finance Expertise: Experience leading Finance activities for complex nonprofit organization(s) with similar or larger budget(s), including annual audits, preparation and filing of Forms 990, FP&A, accounting, lobbying activities, and treasury as well as projects to implement financial technologies. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in financial/regulatory compliance in both the US and outside of the US. Knowledge of internal control systems used for general accounting principles and specialized nonprofit industry accounting practices and procedures, such as restricted foundation and government funds.
Executive Leadership Experience: At least 10 years of experience serving as a senior leader of a complex multi-office, multinational organization with varied revenue streams, including foundation and major gift fundraising, government grants, as well as program income. At least five years of experience working with, and presenting to, executive leaders and boards of directors.
Finance Team Leadership Experience: Proven history of leading, inspiring, and developing cohesive and high functioning teams to effectively deliver outcomes. Experience managing, mentoring, and collaborating with direct reports to develop high performing and well-respected teams that meet and exceed goals.
Relationship Building & Collaboration: Ability to develop and foster strong working relationships with internal stakeholders while providing finance and accounting expertise and analysis that will support the achievement of programmatic and operational objectives with a lens of financial literacy. Experience managing relationships with external entities including banks, investment advisors, legal advisors that assist with state charity registration, insurance carriers, and external auditors.
System & Process Design & Development: Experience effectively navigating and leading through change, rallying stakeholders around a shared vision in a way that generates buy-in and adoption. Ability to assess, guide and address issues in a globally inclusive manner, and willingness and readiness to build and sustain new approaches across all regions. Track record of driving strong implementation and adoption of financial systems and processes.
