Job description: GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

We are a clinical and translational lab studying Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and are looking for a Clinical Recruitment Coordinator to work on a research project in collaboration with the McCance Center for Brain Health.

With minimal supervision of the Principal Investigators, and under the guidance of the Clinical Research Nurse Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of the recruitment, enrollment and follow-up communications, as well as site-related logistics, for assigned clinical treatment trials and/or studies of cognition and behavior in aging, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. This position will involve intensive contact with research participants and their study partners and caregivers. The incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance of a common recruitment registry in Study Traxx.

The incumbent may also assist in recruitment activities for the newly forming Interdisciplinary Brain Center. This position will report to the Clinical Research Manager/ Nurse Practitioner of the Alzheimer’s Clinical and Translational Research Unit (ACTRU) with additional supervision by the Program Manager of the ACTRU and IBC.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • After training and with guidance from the Clinical Research Nurse Manager, the successful applicant will;
  • Implement recruitment/enrollment strategies for studies.
  • Research and initiate new places and/or platforms for subject recruitment, as needed.
  • Work with subjects and study team members to coordinate phone pre-screens and initial screening visits.
  • Perform recruitment and pre-screening data entry of information into study databases.
  • Communicate with study staff to ensure the timely completion of all screening activities.
  • Be familiar and up to date with all ACTRU clinical trial protocols.
  • Participate in weekly staff and team meetings to discuss and address recruitment progress and challenges.
  • Perform administrative support duties as required.
  • May contribute to protocol recommendations.
  • May assist PI or other members of the management team to prepare study reports, protocol Continuing Reviews, or manuscripts for publication.
  • Serve as a liaison on behalf of the ACTRU externally to local community organizations and internally to MGB hospitals and departments as needed.

Qualifications

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Previous experience in similar projects and/or with study recruitment is a plus.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and have a strong motivation to learn.
  • Should be able to prioritize tasks and troubleshoot problems as necessary. Should be comfortable asking for help when needed.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively; interpersonally, verbally and written.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with colleagues and study participants both in person and over phone/video platforms.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Reliable and respectful of others.
  • Basic computer literacy required including word processing, email and spreadsheets.
  • Must be willing to be trained and demonstrate a high level of proficiency in REDCap, Study Traxx and similar platforms.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbent will have a workspace in Building 149 in the Charlestown Navy Yard that is equipped with a networked computer. The successful applicant may also be expected to work from home and will be provided with the necessary technology/equipment to allow this. Visits to MGH-Main Campus will be required in addition to local travel to outreach and recruitment events.

Occasional evenings and weekends to attend outreach events may be required.
