Job description: Dean, Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), a Carnegie II Doctoral/Research Institution and a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering (College). Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the dean is administratively responsible for creating, developing, managing and advancing the academic, research, and outreach programs of the College. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and by the State Board for Educator Certification.� All the undergraduate degrees are ABET accredited. Founded in 1925, TAMUK, a member of the Texas A&M University System, has a diverse student body of nearly 7,500 students representing 35 states and 43 countries. Approximately 74% of the undergraduate students are Hispanic, reflecting the population of the South Texas region. The university is located in historic Kingsville, a friendly, safe city of 25,000 and home of the legendary King Ranch. Corpus Christi and its beaches are 40 miles to the northeast, and the border with Mexico is 120 miles to the south and 100 miles to the west. The College is home to six academic departments: Civil and Architectural Engineering; Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Environmental Engineering; Industrial Management and Technology; Mechanical and Industrial Engineering; and the Wayne H. King Dept. of Chemical and Natural Gas Engineering. The chairs of the six academic departments and the staff of the dean�s office report to the dean. The College offers a full complement of degree programs: ten baccalaureate, ten master�s, and two doctoral. The College of Engineering is further supported by a Dean’s Leadership Board composed of industry leading, highly experienced engineers that works with the dean and university administration to support the dean in promoting the mission of the College. The university seeks a strong visionary leader who will advocate for the College�s programs and needs while simultaneously contributing to the provost�s leadership team, and being mindful of the institutional mission. The dean should have a vision for collaborative initiatives among the diverse disciplines within the College and university, as well as external constituents. Successful candidates should poses multi-faceted administrative experience including personnel and budgetary management and experience in identifying new revenue streams and resources to advance the priorities of the College. It will be important to both understand and relate to the culture of South Texas and the HSI designation of TAMUK. A hallmark of TAMUK is our student-centered focus. The dean will work collaboratively with local and regional stakeholders, and have a thorough understanding of state, national and international issues facing the College. The dean is expected to build upon the state, national and international reputation of the College and to continue the leadership position in academic and research areas, and the College�s fund raising efforts. The dean is expected to continue the established high research mission of the College that is to maintain and expand the research mission of the College, work collaboratively with faculty across the College and promote a student-centered experience that prepares graduates for the workforce and advanced degrees. The dean is also expected to have engagement in student recruitment and retention; as well as experience with accreditation processes, program assessment, and long-range strategic planning. Candidates for the position will have an earned doctorate and qualify for the rank of full professor at TAMUK. �A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated academic administrative experience in a position of director, chair or higher at a baccalaureate or higher degree granting institution. Preferred candidates will have administrative experience at a doctoral-level institution. The negotiable and preferred appointment date is August 1, 2021.
