Job title: Postdoctoral Researcher
Job description: The Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Parasitology in the School of Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher. The incumbent will work on a NIH-funded R01 grant awarded to perform research on cystic fibrosis innate immune defects. Functioning independently, the Postdoctoral Researcher will design and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures, and, in some cases, design new protocols. The incumbent will summarize findings and publish results in research journals; assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory; and, often supervises lab personnel. Candidates for this position must hold a PhD, MD, and/or DDS in Chemistry, Immunology or related field. Three years of prior postdoctoral research experience and experience in analytical chemistry and/or immunology are required. Preferred skills and abilities include previous experience with animal experiments, including mouse bleeding, neutrophil isolation and manipulation, and experience with flow cytometry, cytokine measurements and other immunological techniques. The Postdoctoral Researcher must have the ability to handle and work with small animals, such as mice and rats; work with tissue cultures and/or blood samples; handle liquid nitrogen samples and/or potentially hazardous chemicals, biological or physical agents or processes; and, operate standard lab equipment.
