Job description: UI/UX Design Trainee, CORP IT ADM – Summer/Fall 2022

The Sony Pictures Entertainment Professional Trainee program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allows you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. You will be provided with challenging tasks, real-world experience, valuable networking opportunities, and many educational and social opportunities. Trainees will work remotely with the potential of working in the office location at a later time. This Summer/Fall Professional Trainee position is from May/June through December 16th and all candidates must be able to work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday.

The Digital Media Group (DMG) is a software development team within Sony Pictures Corporate IT. We operate, maintain, and enhance several important software applications used by the Studio: Digital Asset Management (DAM) platforms; Streaming, Forensic Watermarking and CDN services and integrations; Metadata Aggregation and Translation tools; and Media Supply Chain Asset Registry indexes.

The UI/UX Trainee is a perfect position for a candidate who wants to understand the business & support side of the entertainment industry as it relates to how the industry is evolving with technology. This individual will be exposed to the creative and strategic areas of Sony Pictures Entertainment Digital Asset Management (DAM) in service of lines of business in Marketing, Advertising/Publicity, and Media Supply Chain groups, and apply their skills in IT design and UI/UX analysis towards solving or easing problems faced by internal and external business customers.

One of DMG’s applications, Sony Pictures Runner, is replacing its user interface code this year (2022). A UI/UX Trainee will have ample opportunities during this project to apply and hone their skills in a real-world campaign to revitalize, redesign, and evolve this mature application interface.

The UI/UX Design Trainee will be responsible for working closely with the Product Owner, UI/UX Designer, Business Relationship Managers and Software Engineers to:

  • Collaborate with Runner/DMG staff and business users to understand product/feature goals and prototyping viable options and solutions
  • Generate design consensus by gathering feedback and refining the prototype
  • Creating wireframes, storyboards, sitemaps and screen flows
  • Developing app user personas and usage scenarios
  • Analyzing user feedback and activity, and iterating to enhance the user experience
  • Assist with product research, developing or designing presentation materials, tutorial guides, and preparing reports for the team
  • We have also harnessed talents in photoshop manipulation and design for adding to existing sites, creating new e-blasts and notification templates, and a wide variety of other projects for our many clients in sales, distribution, publicity, and marketing.

  • Education or experience in UI/UX Design
  • Possess strong analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to solve problems
  • Be able to diagnose and report application or user experience problems to colleagues
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Be able to work in a diverse, and sometimes fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and have knowledge or familiarity with digital media, including content management systems and web terminology.
  • A good understanding of Microsoft Office Excel will be helpful for some analysis and reporting. Photoshop, Illustrator or web coding experience is a plus.

  • Experience developing mobile or web apps
  • We strongly desire technical proficiency in design tools and applications like: Adobe Suite, Figma, Sketch, Invision
